Getting colder: Freeze warning goes into effect tonight ahead of warm weekend
A freeze warning will be in effect for all of Southeast Michigan tonight through 8 a.m. Thursday. Overnight temperatures ranging from 25 to 30 degrees could kill unprotected plants.
After morning sprinkles and flurries, clouds will gradually decrease from north to south this afternoon and evening. Temperatures will only top out around 40 degrees in the Thumb and near 50 degrees in Detroit. With northerly winds of 10 to 20 mph, wind chills will be in the 20s and 30s.
TONIGHT:
The freeze warning will go into effect. Consider covering plants or bringing potted plants indoors. Under mostly clear skies, temperatures will fall as low as the mid 20s in the Thumb and Ann Arbor areas and around 30 degrees in Detroit. Freezing temperatures will lead to the development of widespread frost. Winds will be out of the northeast at 5 to 10 mph.
TOMORROW (THURSDAY):
It will be a cold start to the day with widespread frost. The NFL Draft will kickoff with mostly sunny skies as a high-pressure system hovers over the Great Lakes. Despite the sunshine, it will still be cool with highs in the mid 50s. Light winds will be out of the east at 4 to 8 mph.
TOMORROW NIGHT:
Skies will be mostly. Lows will be in the mid 30s.
FRIDAY:
Skies will go from partly cloudy to mostly cloudy as clouds increase. Temperatures will return to normal with highs in the mid 60s. Rain showers will move into the area at night with lows in the lower to mid 50s.
SATURDAY:
A warm front will sweep across the area in the morning and boost afternoon temperatures into the mid 70s. It will be breezy with scattered rain showers. Lows will be in the lower 60s.
SUNDAY:
It will be mostly cloudy with the chance of a few showers. Highs will be in the upper 70s to 80 degrees. The chance of showers will continue into the night with lows in the lower to mid 60s.
The normal high through Saturday is 63 degrees, and the normal low is 43 degrees.
