Wednesday’s calmer weather comes on anniversary of deadly tornado
Wednesday’s calmer weather and ample sunshine was welcomed across the region a day after severe storms, but it comes on the 60th anniversary of another sobering weather event.
On May 8, 1964, a tornado devastated neighborhoods in Chesterfield Township. It touched down near I-94 and 21 Mile Road at about 5 p.m. Before it exited into Lake St. Clair’s Anchor Bay, it killed 13 people and injured hundreds. Their names are etched into a memorial marker in the Chesterfield Historical Village at 47275 Sugarbush Road.
Wednesday has brought sunshine with temperatures in the 70- to 80-degree range, but cooler weather is on the way.
